Composite Veneers in Malaga
Smile Design with Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are thin layers designed to cover imperfections in the shape, size, or color of the tooth. These aesthetic restorations are made of a special composite resin material called composite.
Composite is commonly used for other dental procedures such as reconstructions in posterior sectors. This composite, which can be the color of the tooth or with lighter shades, depending on the patient’s taste, produces realistic results that restore the smile. In addition, because they are minimally invasive since there is no carving or filing of the tooth, discomfort is not usually felt during or after the procedure.
Currently they are the most popular dental aesthetic treatment, and this is due to several reasons, the main ones being:
- They are usually performed in a single visit.
- It is minimally invasive (the tooth is neither worn down nor carved to place them).
- Its cost is considerably lower than porcelain veneers.
- It can be reversed easily by returning to the consultation.
To see it in a more everyday or understandable way, if we compare it to a work of art, the natural tooth is the canvas on which the dentist forges his masterpiece with the composite, adjusting to the shape, texture, and color that the patient seeks.

Procedure for composite veneers

Prior to this, there must be an initial consultation for assessment and diagnosis, which can be done on the same day if it is in person or previously by video call.
- A prior cleaning will be performed, although it is important to clarify that on the day of placement of the veneers, the gums cannot be inflamed, so it is ideal that the cleaning has occurred in the previous weeks.
- Thin layers of composite are applied to the natural tooth, thus obtaining the shape, size, and color desired by the patient.
- Once the previous step is finished, the adjustment of occlusion, finishing, and polishing of the veneers is carried out, where the patient can later contemplate and enjoy their new smile.
- The duration of the placement of the veneers will depend on the case, but it usually takes between three and six hours, approximately.
It is advisable to go to a control appointment a couple of weeks after placing the composite veneers to make any adjustments that are necessary, since in that period we expect the patient to adapt and get used to their new smile.
The process to obtain composite veneers can be done in a single appointment. This is because the composite is placed in layers directly on the surface of the tooth and is done freehand by the dentist in the same consultation.
Frequently asked questions about Composite veneers
How many years do composite veneers last without changing color or appearance?
For this type of aesthetic dental veneers, everything will depend on the patient’s eating habits (drinks such as red wine or coffee, tobacco consumption, among others), but with good care and going to an annual polishing/maintenance, they should last between 4 and 6 years until their replacement.
Should my tooth be damaged to place them?
No. To place composite veneers it is not necessary to carve or file the tooth. They are part of what we call minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry.
How to maintain composite veneers?
As we have explained previously, there are certain foods and drinks that pigment them more easily. Ideally, in addition to trying to limit their consumption, brushing as soon as possible is advised to prevent the pigmenting elements from remaining in the mouth for a long time. It is also advisable not to brush with whitening toothpastes, as these contain abrasive particles that scratch the surface of the veneer, causing them to become more porous and susceptible to absorbing pigmenting elements.
How do they differ from porcelain veneers?
Composite veneers are made in the clinic by the professional, while porcelain dental veneers are made in the laboratory and cemented in the clinic. That is why the latter require two or three visits while composite veneers are usually done in one.
