Dental implant treatments are increasingly requested by people who come to the clinic because they have suffered the loss of one or more teeth. Although it is a treatment that has become increasingly popular over the years, there are still many doubts that we try to clarify daily to our patients.
What is the procedure like? Is it going to hurt? Do I have to be admitted to a hospital? These and more are some of the most frequent questions we receive.
When placing a dental implant, it is not necessary to do it in a hospital environment; the procedure is carried out in the dental clinic itself. The specialist applies local anesthesia before proceeding with the placement of the dental implant, in this way we prevent the patient from suffering any type of pain during the process.
How are dental implants placed?
When proceeding with the placement of a dental implant, it is necessary to do it through a staggered process in 3 different stages:
Stage 1: The first thing that is done to replace a missing tooth is to place the dental implant at the level of the bone, replacing the root of the tooth, remaining below the gum.
Stage 2: When the dental implant is fully integrated into the bone, the abutment is placed on the implant. This abutment acts as a link between the implant and the dental crown.
Stage 3: Finally, the dental crown is placed on the abutment that connects directly to the implant already integrated into the bone and the gum is completely healed.
Could it be done in a single day?
Yes, technology in the implantology sector has been able to develop a type of dental implants capable of fulfilling aesthetically and functionally in a single day. For this, it is necessary to use a different type of implant that incorporates the implant and the abutment in a single piece with a metal flange that protrudes from the gum, which has the function of keeping the implant fixed while it adheres to the bone.
The dental crown used is temporary, but it protects the implant during its integration while developing an aesthetic and functional function.
Once the total integration of the implant is achieved, the temporary crown is replaced and the final dental crown is installed.
What does the general success rate of dental implants depend on?
The dental implants that are currently used have been tested and verified to guarantee their quality. However, some brands develop dental implants with better materials, providing an improvement in bone integration, as well as greater durability.
